April Fools Day 5k - Local Charity Event

 Piper Carter was 10 years old when she was taken to the hospital after simply complaining of a stomachache on July 13 with swelling in the abdomen. She was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma on July 17th. Piper was on the swim team and very active outdoors with no prior symptoms. She was treated with her first dose of chemotherapy in her spine, bone marrow, and blood on July 17th. She then faced with countless issues consisting of damage to her liver, acute kidney failure, fluid on brain, two minor strokes, fluctuating blood pressure and heart rate, five different situations of internal bleeding, been intubated, later underwent tracheostomy, gallbladder removed, and multiple other issues dealing with nutritional deficiencies. She underwent two major surgeries on her abdomen to correct bleeding and three scopes to cauterize ulcers in intestines that were bleeding.   

On Sunday, September 22nd, surrounded by her loving family at Memorial Health Children’s Hospital in Savannah, Piper unfortunately lost her battle with cancer. The Carter family appreciated all of the love and prayer that has blanketed them during this egregious period of their lives. All net proceeds from this years benefit will still go to this precious child’s memory and her family to help alleviate the financial stress they are under.
